Roxy (a.k.a. Sam)
Posted on October 15, 2018
Greetings all~
It's with a heavy heart that I'm announcing that Roxy, the border collie that "
Sam" is based on in our comic, passed away. She lived a long 15+ years and brought a lot of smiles to everyone she got to know. For Scott's account of her younger years -- particularly before I met her, you can read his account
at his blog. Here's a
short comic I drew about their relationship early on.
I had gotten to know her in her later years as a senior dog. Scott's family would bring her over during the daytime to rest in my dark, quiet, air-conditioned workroom, then later after dinnertime to sleep with us in our (also) air-conditioned bedroom. When standing and walking became difficult, Scott and I cared her for full-time, lifting her in and out of the house for fresh air and potty breaks and driving her to the park for some sniffing times and exercise. She became so mellow and gentle, other dogs and people could walk up to her and pet her -- things that we never thought possible just 2 years ago.
There's so much to say and write about how Roxy impacted all of our lives that just can't be expressed in a blog post or two. Over the months I was caring for her, I jotted down thoughts and observations in hopes of translating into a series of short comics once I completed some of my heftier, pressing deadlines. I look forward to the day I can share them with you all.
In the meanwhile, we're missing her lots and are still sorting thru all our thoughts and feelings. It's been a tough week, but we're slowly getting back on our feet. Thanks so much for all love and support. ♥
